San Francisco Airport opens #Coverge Lounge
Airports around the country are constantly working on ideas to improve the passenger experience at their facility. In an effort to do so, some have built fancy new terminals, improved retail and restaurant options or added yoga studios/exercise facilities.
In an effort to create its own identity, San Francisco airport has taken the area’s reputation as a hub for innovation and turned an underused conference room into a useful space, a lounge where creative types can get together and talk. Similar to Hyde Park’s Speakers’ Corner, the #Converge@flySFO lounge gives travelers a place to exchange thoughts on a limitless range of topics, including technology, economy or politics, to name just a few, and collaborate on meaningful ideas in real time.
Travelers can walk in, write their topic of interest on the whiteboard, along with their seat location or description of self and the time that they have to leave to catch their flight. Anyone in the lounge who is interested in meeting, then has a way of connecting. Alternately, meetings can be prearranged using social media. Be sure to include the hashtag #Converge and tagging @flySFO whenever possible. SFO will then share on its social media network.
The hope is that this becomes the go-to place for the tech elite as they travel through SFO. How better to spend time between flights than interacting with some of the brightest minds in the nation and having the opportunity to engage them in discussion?
The lounge is located in the International Terminal near gate G93. It is unmanned and comes complete with free Wi-Fi, tables and chairs, power outlets, a whiteboard and chalkboard.
