SanFran-HeroSan Francisco International Airport (SFO)

San Francisco International Airport is one of United Airlines’ major hubs, and its key gateway to the Pacific.  The airport is the destination for two of five of the world’s longest flights, including a unique routing on Air India that flies around the world.  Operating from San Francisco to New Delhi across the Atlantic, the return flight crosses the Pacific to take advantage of strong tailwinds. Here’s what you need to know about San Francisco International Airport:

Getting Around: San Francisco airport has four terminals, home to United Airlines (Terminal 3), American & Virgin America (Terminal 2), all other domestic airlines (Terminal 1) and all international airlines (International Terminal). There is limited ability to connect between terminals without re-clearing security, apart from a secure walkway connecting United’s Terminal 3 with the G Concourse of the International Terminal for many of United’s international departures.  Otherwise, travellers will need to exit security and use the AirTrain to connect to another terminal.

Relaxing: SFO runs a program called Wag Brigade in which the San Francisco SPCA brings therapy dogs into the terminal, which passengers are encouraged to pet, helping to ease tension and bring some joy to the travel experience.  For business travellers without access to an airline lounge, the airport has workstations placed in each of the terminals.  The workstations have proper desk chairs, power and generous workspace.

Dining: The airport features a wide variety of dining choices featuring San Francisco signature foods.  Amongst those are Boudin Bakery & Café (Terminal 3, concourse F food court) offering San Francisco’s famous sourdough bread.  Try the clam chowder served in a sourdough bread bowl.  For fresh Mexican, try Andale Mexican Restaurant (Terminal 3, concourse F food court & Terminal 2, near gate 59), where we often grab a vegetarian burrito between flights.

WiFi: Unlimited free wi-fi is available throughout the airport using #SFO FREE WIFI
